Allowing us to 'finish' this series is not art. It's lazy. The Sopranos have gone to one of the best shows ever made, to one of the worst.
Years of work have been ruined. No one wants to end the show themselves, they want it ended for them. It's not our story. It's theirs. It's the Sopranos' story. We were never involved in the story for 7 seasons, why pull us in now? It's inconsistent and it would seem that Mr. Chase either could not make up his mind or though he was being 'cute' with an open ending.
Unfortunately, perhaps closer to the truth...leaving this series open for a movie is NOT artful.
It's greed.
Who really wants a Sopranos movie? I mean, artistically. Sure, many would go to see it, many would make money from it (so that might imply that it's wanted) but if you want to talk about 'art' do you think that's the best way to go about it--ending such a brilliant, intricate show with an ending like that?
I can't help but remember those fiction novels that allowed you to choos your own destiny....
"To fight the Dragon, go to page 74. To Try to run away, go to page 52." fun for an elementary schoolchild, but hardly 'art'
Mr. Chase may as well have ended the show with Anthony Soprano waking up in his bed, and us learning that his whole mobster career was all just 15 minute dream.
In fact, that almost would have been better!
Leaving the series open is greedy at best, and nowhere near 'art'
