A Police Shooting

Do we need to always point out that the police are risking their lives when an incident like this takes place? The police are getting paid for what they do---we have a right to expect professional behavior. In this case, the police evidently put the lives of everyone in the neighborhood at risk (a bullet even shattered a lamp inside someone's home). If they are going to unload fifty shots into unarmed and perhaps even innocent persons, then their actions are inexcusable and the point regarding police putting their own lives at risk is not relevant.

Furthermore, the credibility of the protesters is also not an issue. The points that they raise are legitimate and shared by many. Even a group of police officers has expressed no confidence in their chief regarding this matter.

Of course we need to wait for the results of the investigation. But the behavior of the police appears outrageous, and to ask obvious questions now is not unreasonable. Otherwise, there will be a motivation to drag out the investigation and whitewash as has too often been the case.
