First of all, Rangel was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. And his desire to re-instate the draft is an attempt to reduce the high unemployment in his own Congressional District. My State of Nevada has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation. Still, young men and women continue to raise their right hands and take the oaths of enlistment and appointment. Mister Rangle is a prime example of why I left NYC and joined the Navy, beginning a 25-year career in the process. He is afflicted with the tunnel vision that prevents him from seeing a nation west of the mall in Paramus, New Jersey. He believes the prevalent cynicism in his district (because of dashed hopes and no employment) is a microcosm of the entire country. It isn't! He fails to realize that, as his head hits the pillow each night, one-half the world is up to some sort of mischief and evil men out there want to kill us. Thankfully there are still hordes of brave men and women who are intelligent enough to recognize that threat and deal with it.
