There is overwhelming evidence that AJ has made a transformation to be exactly like his father, or more rather a suitable replacement to his father. Look closely. Look at how much of the last episode was spent on AJ. Not until this last episode did we see a complete Tony-like pschoanalytical approach to the world from AJ. Did anybody see how he used Tony-like pschology on his parents into getting what he wanted? This was his first success.
Why else did Chase add the scene where Tony tricks Paulie into accepting what Pauie viewed as a "dead-end" role in the family by using the very same psychology AJ has learned, and clearly demonstrated in the previous scene. Interestin to note is the cat in this scene may forshadow on the fact that Paulie's decision would also result in his "blood being sucked out of him", symbolically of course.
Another important giveaway is when AJ's psychiatrist knew nothing of AJ's desires to enroll in the military. This clearly contradicts what AJ had told Tony. In the last episode, at the table with his parents, did anyone notice how AJ was dressed remarkably similar Tony. White robe, white t-shirt, hair on the chest, and that unflappable look on his face.
Who stands in his way?
Bobby who would have definitely made a run for the top role was squeezed. Silvio is in coma-city. Paulie has clearly demonstrated that for him it isn't about the money or leadership, more rather the camaraderie. Christopher got Dr. Kevorkianed. There is nobody left.
AJ's friends are thugs and already look up to him b/c of his dad. AJ has been all over the map, wanting to kill himself, wanting to change society, getting off on hurting people, feeling sorry for people...
Look at where this is all going. More importantly look at where the momentum is going. Yes, the music very well may have stopped for Tony, but it goes on and on through his bloodline. Why else would so much focus and attention be put on AJ in the last few episodes and specifically the final episode?
What conclusions can we draw from this?
Better Question. What would it take to put AJ over the edge?
Could the slaying or pinching of Tony solidify a hatred or sense of retribution in the psyche of AJ?
Following along with me here how convenient is this:
Sopranos The Movie (3-5 years later)- don't be naive, in Hollywood it's all about the money
Note: Most of the characters who would have demanded big contracts are convenienly ousted.
Even if Tony ended up getting pinched, rather than shot, with him behind bars coaching an AJ that now has a few more years on him and can lay down a good backhand who is going to get in his way? All I hope for are some solid soft-core scenes out of Meadow, and maybe some out of the resurrected Adrianna as well.
My 2 cents
