Gay Marriage Bill ‘Very Likely' To Pass Assembly in Near Future
in response to reader comment: TOLERANCE? YES APPROVAL? NO

In response to Mr. Paquet:

First, You state that, "We live in a country where we have freedom of choice and I respect that, but choices have consequences - if someone wants to live with someone that is their business but DO NOT EXPECT everyone to agree or to pay for their choices. "

According to the same logic, then, Mr. Paquet, gays and lesbians who are denied the right to marry should not have to pay the same taxes as straight Americans, as they are not allowed the same rights and federal and state tax benefits that marriage provides.

Second, what is popular with the people is not always right or moral. During the Civil War era, "the people" believed that blacks should be slaves. It took government intervention for that horrendous injustice to be changed, not the vote of the people.

Third, straight people do not have a monopoly on God. Me, and many, many other GLBT Christians have a strong faith in God. The difference is that we know that the God we worship created us in His image, and knew us and loved us for who we are before we were born, as GLBT persons. Unfortunately, the Bible has been misused and incorrectly translated to persecute the GLBT community for too long by the "religious right", to advance their agenda of hate and discrimination. I pray that God does not judge you as harshly as you judge others.
