Lawyers Versus the Troops

Submitted by George Steiner, Jun 14, 2007 21:38

The US has the best trained and equipped military in the world, but its rules of engagement as well as the way it does warfare are controlled by lawyers. In addition there is the idea that US military should be liked. This is fiction. The US military should be feared and respected, not liked.

A war can't be won without pulverizing the enemy. It is not done in Iraq with obvious consequences. The Japanese and the Germans were pulverized, with obvious consequences. The US will in the end loose all its military conflicts unless it can bring itself to killing the enemy above all. Nation building and winning harts and minds is not a job for the military. With an enemy willing to kill and willing to die legal concern will guarantee loosing.
