No End in This End To ‘The Sopranos'

Submitted by Marjorie L., Jun 15, 2007 17:41

In the first episode of this season, "Soprano Home Movies," Bobby and Tony are relaxing on a little boat on the lake. Bobby muses, "You probably don't even hear it when it happens, right?" Based on that foreshadowing, I now realize that in the final seconds of "The Sopranos," Tony got whacked. The blank and silent screen at the very end implies Mama Livia was right all along. "It's all a big nothing," she told AJ. In Tony's death, there were no lighted houses with deceased family members, no big answer to "where am I going," and no insight into Tony's desert revelation, "I get it." David Chase gave us a brilliant and esoteric finale. It brought closure to the theme for the entire run of the series, which has been the meaning of life and the afterlife.
