Bad News in Bronx: Red Sox May Be Underachieving

Submitted by cb, Jun 17, 2007 11:13

It is strange to read a NY writer being so reasonable about the Red Sox. I'm a fan, of course, but I see things exactly as he does. Lugo, Crisp and Drew, especially, are going to warm up, and I also think Daisuke is going to improve gradually and become a dominant pitcher. One of the most interesting things about NY/Boston baseball is the seemingly irrefutable evidence that some players can't hack it in these cities. That is the ONE thing that might come into play to make the Sox vulnerable; otherwise a 95 win playoff team with potentially dominant pitching is the picture a seasoned fan sees. 1978 has nothing to do with now. As the Sox recent play clearly shows, dominant pitching perfomances (two 1-0 wins and a 2-1 win in 9 days) keeps losing streaks short. When the offrense gears up just a little, the Sox roll.
