It's hard to understand why Israel is so accepting of shelling so long as it's only against its small towns and within 20 miles of it's borders. Would we accept Mexico shelling just El Paso? Would we say, well, that's OK, only poor people live in southern Texas? I think not. Israel has to strike - disproportionately - in order to make up for its poor showing last summer. If Gaza launches rockets into Sderot, Israel should take out 10 square blocks of Gaza towns. A more serious strike should mean 50 square blocks taken from northern Gaza and so on. Meanwhile, if Mr. Abbas is serious about peace in the West Bank, we'll know soon enough.
