Perhaps the reasons you don't see as much of a spot-light on Hamas violence in the leftist press include:
1. The actions of Hamas are already thoroughly deplored in the mainstream press, along with reigning political and popular opinion in the western world. Contrast this with the recent actions of the Israeli government vis-a-vis the Palestinians (e.g., security wall beyond the 1967 boundary, ongoing settlement construction beyond the 1967 boundary), in spite of which the Israeli government is still the beneficiary of approx. $3 billion USD annually in US military and economic aid.
2. Like it or not, Hamas were elected democratically when Palestinians last went to the polls. Now, we can debate what actions are legitimate when governments of ostensibly sovereign peoples face organized insurrection, but your article conveniently omits this fact altogether, which allows the reader to falsely assume that Hamas never had any legitimate representative or governmental power in the first place.
Cheers, rjc.
