I saw this program last night and must confess that Ms. Sedgewick's character comes off more as a thinking bag lady with a mild psychological disorder about organization. Sexy? I think not. She puts her lipstick on like an angry woman, like one quick gash across the lower half of her face, shoves chocolate in like a speed eater and really needs to do something with her hair. If she wasn't a Hollywood starlet her white trash face would be what you'd see as you sped past an Alabama trailer park. The other woman in the series, Det. Daniels looks like a black Angelina Joli and is eye-candy to make up for the desheveled protagonist. As to comparing her to Helen Mirren's Det. Superintendant Jane Tennison, Woah!!! Tennison has deamons that are all inside her. No boyfriend to come home to smooch with, a crumbling personal life, alcoholism, dying parents, etc. Crosses to bear that make Brenda look like a light-weight. Without a doubt, The Closer is good American television, but I think you're fantasizing to compare it with Prime Suspect.
