Assembly Set To Approve Gay Marriage

I am thrilled that Speaker Silver has finnally agreed to let this bill move foward. Its time has come. Passage in the Assembly, coupled with thye Governor's support, will help put pressure on the Republican controlled Senate to take a stand on this issue and decide if it wans to continue to sanction discrimination or will support equal rights for all.

Thanks to all our leaders on this bill: advocates and legislaters alike. A special thanks to New York's out gay legislators, Sen. Tom Duane, Assembly Member Deborah Glick and of course, the bills sponsor, and leader of the charge, Assembly Member Danny O'Donnell. A special thanks also goes to Assembly Member Richard Gottfried, who first introduced same sex marraige legislation years ago. That early introduction allowed the dialogue and legislative advocacy that brings us where we are today. Good work, all!
