As a Christian, who as a hippie, used to listen to and like Cat Steven's old music, I have to say that I agree with him on some things. I do not agree with him on who God is, for one; little details like that I can overlook. Or that the Gospels say that blasphemy or for that any other matter is a capital offense would be a point of difference; the Gospels are not a set of rules that lead to death sentences but a message (good news) about how to escape a death sentence now in effect upon the whole human race (notice that everyone dies?). Islam seems to be very concerned with putting people to death while the message of Christ is very concerned with dismissing the death sentence. Another little detail.
But as far as freedom of speech; I don't think people have a "right" to say anything they want. Unless they are willing to pay the price for doing it, which could include loss of their breathing privledges. If you are going to use fighting words, you need to be willing to fight. Also, I don't mind covering up women so that the perverted minds and eyeballs of most men who have oogled tons of porno can't salivate imagining what my wife, sister, or daughter looks like naked, helped on by immodest dress styles favored by a society that functions like a pimp. If people want to cover up, let them. I don't think they should be allowed to walk around in non-Muslim dominant circles with their faces covered up however, since that makes me paranoid. I want to see who I am dealing with; man or woman or beast or what the heck is under that head-dress? When grandmas in Palestine are blowing themselves up, don't tell me Muslims are not capable of any deception when it comes to getting their jihad rolling!
