As Vespa Popularity Rises, City May Try To Make Vroom

That's good news for sure. But is it one step forward, two steps back for scooters with the mayor's plan NOT exempting them from the $8 charge like London did? Treating a small scooter the same as a Hummer or SUV makes no sense at all. Not everyone has easy access to public transport and a bike is not an alternative to a car for most people. That makes scooters a great alternative. They get up to 80 miles per gallon! Scooters should be encouraged in every way, not just with discounted parking in city lots. How about a spot or two at the end of the block or designated parking areas around the city so that they don't have to park between cars and get knocked over or park on the sidewalk illegally? If the people are adopting scooters more and more, the government should support people's choice when it helps ease city congestion.
