I left Vietnam on a boat that was navigated by my father as a baby with Tung holding me in his arms 26 years ago. Through all the hardships that we have been through, I always felt he was unstoppable. He was such a hero to me. He always gave me the best advice and always made me feel safe. It was always such excitement everytime he said he was coming home to visit. We would always be so thrilled knowing that he was coming up our doorstep. My father had fought in the Vietnam War against communism and survived. I thought Tung would have the same fate. I really didn't believe something like this could happen to him. He's worked hard throughout his whole life, and was close to retire. I breathe a deep sigh...and ask... was there a reason for someone so good to die so young? I guess this is a question that can never be answered. I know it is the question that is asked by many others in regards to their loved ones. We escaped Vietnam in search for freedom, and here we are, fighting for it. In the end, we find ourselves in a repeat of the history that we ran away from many years ago. I am proud of him for he took this role because he knew that he was once the opressed, and selflessly stands up for his and everyone's freedom.
