Bush Weighs Reaching Out To ‘Brothers'

Submitted by Mark Rogers, Jun 20, 2007 21:07

So in spite of everything, in spite of the Rumsfeld decision not to allow the generals to fight the last war, in spite of Condi putting the State Department on notice that it's old paternalistic view, it's old view of the Arab world derived from the British Foreign Office and Chatham House (Australian Journalist, circa 1948: why do the British love the Arabs? Proto-Israeli (the war hadn't been won yet): Because the Arabs ride horses and treat their women as inferiors, the Jews drive Jeeps and treat their women as equals)no longer counted, still the forces that neutralise democracy - the State Department there, the Foreign Office here - they've won. The Big Question is of course, how's Michael Moore going to deal with this one, Bush and the Brothers? And why has no-one noticed that Michael Moore is all the things we're supposed to hate: Male, American, Obese. I guess that spells MAO, so all is forgiven. The invasion of Iraq produced the domino effect its advocates and supporters predicted: Syrian army flees Lebanon in the face of 400,000 peaceful Lebanese; Kurds prospering without the need for flyover in the North; Colonel Gaddafi turning tail and co-operating in exposing a colossal failure of western intelligence that no-one talks about, viz., the nuclear underground being run out of Pakistan to N. Korea, Iran, Iraq and Libya. So: what is going on? Who is pressuring Bush? Wars are not theatre. There's no plan that can be orchestrated. The domino effect that was predicted and took place did not depend on everything going right in the immediate focus of the war, Iraq. Just predicted on the grounds that if Iraq was attacked boldly enough - it was - it would probably have those effects. It did. That's why the opponents of the war are crying foul. Because a significant aspect of it worked. It wasn't supposed to, from the opponents point of view. Which is why they're upset. The tragedy is that ignorance and well-meaning, feeding off each other, usually prevail.
