White Christian heterosexuals are not the only ones who have to live in this country, although they may make up the majority.

This country is much more than a mere representative democracy, it is a land in which everyone is guaranteed basic rights regardless of their minority status.

Gays and Lesbians are first and foremost Americans, as we all should be.

I believe that if we adjusted our thinking just a bit and looked at ways to draw upon our strengths and commonalities rather than divide each other based upon our differences we would all be in a much better place. At the end of the day, the difference here is in a single sex chromosome, a penis, a vagina (which at one point in all of our lives was indistinguishable in the womb). This issue should not rip this country apart in the way that it does.

Let us move on beyond this Taliban-like dogma/bronze aged mythologies, celebrate our differences and work together to tackle the real issues: our position within the global economy, education, AIDS, pollution/global warming, hunger, healthcare, and poverty. Perhaps after we deal with all of these things, the real issues, we can afford the luxury of picking each other apart for the sake of sanctifying our own moralistic positioning.
