Council Member Wants Schools To Allow Nativity Scene Displays

Councilman Avella's proposal calling on the Department of Education to permit the display of Nativity scenes in schools is a divisive issue that will only serve to inflame religious tensions around our city. His idea is as divisive as Councilman Barron's push to name a street after Sonny Carson. It would fit all our councilmen, Avella and Barron and their colleagues, to stop spending city resources on such meaningless, pandering plans as these and instead use their time and talents to address the real issues that might improve the quality of life in our city like housing for the middle class, recreational facilities for our youth, improved teacher quality in our schools, etc. I am sure if they asked their constituents to name other important issues that would have a greater impact on city life, few would encourage the City Council to spend time on these ideas.
