The only utility to entering into negotiations with these people would be to catch them in a lie later. Iran is unquestionably aiding the insurgency in Iraq and remains a major supporter of terrorism. Syria, besides being essentially a puppet of Iran, has now assassinated TWO politicians in Lebanon. They are both manifestly untrustworthy, ergo we know that any promises they would make to aid in quelling the violence in Iraq would be false.
The only utility to catching them in such a lie would be to prove to the US citizenry (and any interested parties with a lick of sense in them) that these countries are a pox on the world and need to suffer a similar fate to Saddam.
