While the Center for Security Policy is certainly conservative, calling it far right is perhaps spinning it a bit far. The Center has hosted speakers associated with Democratic administrations and the traditional left. At the gathering the other night there were more than a few Democrats and liberals present. Importantly, many of the people associated with the Center have been touching on an important theme in their talks and in informal conversations. That is that all Americans who believe in democracy, left and right, have a role to play in the battle against political Islamism that is fundamentally undemocratic. I hope this idea is not too far right. Remember that It was the Democrats under Truman who forged an alliance with the non-isolation wing of the Republican Party and forged a strategy for the confrontation with Stalinism. Remember too that the traditional left, especially the unions, played a major role in the long twilight struggle. Even at the end of the Cold War, American Unions were providing critical support to Solidarity. In our current situation we should consider our history.
