Same sex marriage is a civil rights issue. What on earth does it have to do with the whims of non-governmental (never mind socially and scientifically primitive) groups like religious entities? Your suggestion that it be "put up for a vote" suggests that the electoral majority should actually be allowed to determine an individual's civil liberties. This shocking suggestion is a call for "tyrrany of the majority". One must ask what a similar "vote" on Jewish rights in 1939 Germany have yielded? If gay people want to tie the knot, let them. If your religious beliefs are offended: Get over yourself. Just like you got over the Sun being the center of the solar system, the overwhelming evidence for evolution, and women wearing pants.
