Baker's Panel Rules Out Iraq Victory

Submitted by dan kelsey, Nov 28, 2006 12:52

Here is the problem, we are incapable of producing, promoting, imposing or dictating to a vastly different mindset what it is we think is best for the inhabitants of such a place without completely destroying every element of influence that presently exists because it is virtually impossible to satisfy all of the interests at play in the struggle that is unfortanately defined by the term iraq war. The options are clear, close with and destroy or fall back and let the process unfold. There is no middle ground and there never has been. There is no shame in admitting that what seemed like a good idea, really was not. One could monday morning quarterback this thing to death, trust me I have. In the sprit of debate and just so one has an idea of where it is i am coming from, the US military did what it was supposed to do in a matter of months, the remainder of the time spent in country has been pure folly. Military units are not nor should be in the business of keeping the peace, they engage in the unfortunate art of destruction, the last best resort when all other options have failed. The middle east is a failed region, the US neutralized a radical dicatator percieved at the time to present a credible threat given the events of 9/11. In light of the chaos that is sure to ensue, we redploy and monitor the situation and try to reengage on the diplomatic front. perhaps after all the carnage reasonable people will once again be able to sit and talk and find a mutually palatable solution. enough said!
