Benoit Case Uncovers a Lack Of Understanding of Steroids

One thing to note about Baseball (and Football to an extent) and steroids versus Pro Wrestling and Bodybuilding and steroids is the totally different reasons for each use. A baseball player would use steroids almost exclusively for performance enhancement whereas a wrestler or bodybuilder would be using steroids for cosmetic reasons. Wrestling has always been strange in that most of the heaviest steroid abusers were always the worse performers and yet still were pushed as the biggest stars simpy due to physique. For the record Chris Benoit would not have been considered one of the "heaviest" users although obviously he did abuse steroids. Where I am going with this is one reason baseball has had fewer problems with "roid rage" incidents could be because the levels of steroids taken strictly for performance would probably be much less than the dosages required to bulk up to superhuman proportions. That being said, I do think Baseball does probably have the best steroid testing policy in place of all major sports. One thing to keep in mind though is that Baseball without steroids will always continue to be baseball as we know it. Pro wrestling and Bodybuilding without steroids would become an entirely different entity and may not even survive in its present incarnations. When you think about things in these terms its easy to see why Baseball would be able to institute a really tough steroid policy while other sports try to overlook abuses. I am in no way trying to defend Pro Wrestling or Bodybuilding as I think both sports need to be investigated closely and changes need to be made. I am also in no way trying to belittle Baseball's drug testing policy. I suppose when all is said and done the points I have raised only serve to reinforce your idea that Baseball will have to be the sport to bring the steroid problem out into the open once and for all.
