To be fair, Castro contributed to his own outcome. He had refused a diverting colostomy which his Cuban surgeons advised as part of his initial surgery. Perhaps one of the reasons El Commandanted disappeared for so long was that Dr. Sabrido was able to perform the colostomy and Fidel didn't wish to let anyone see his somewhat less macho state.
What Moore neglects to mention, however, is that most Cuban citizens to NOT have access to the same level of care or practitioner available to Castro and his cronies. I correspond with a German Ob-Gyn in Namibia who's encountered the Cuban physicians. He calls them "Cuban quacks." 'Nuff said. Our healthcare delivery system clearly needs work, but I would not prescribe the Cuban model as a cure.
