Saves Won't Help Torre Save Yankees

All I can say to Joe Torre is "thanks for the great memories". I have said all year that this team reminds me of the '65 Yankees, a team that got old all at once, stopped producing and everyone was shocked. With one major difference. That team was not a team full of free agents who are playing for their own stats. It would seem that these players have taken their cue from Torre, who looks as confused as everyone is by the turn of events of 2007. At this point, I don't think that there is much of a chance of Joe staying beyond this year, even if he wanted to. The organization obviously wants/needs to go in another direction, and even Cashman has to admit that this is a transition year. The question is, if not Joe, who? Girardi? Mattingly? Larry Bowa? Torre has had a heck of a run, but I have to agree that his time has passed. It would have passed last Oct if not for the 7 Million left on his contract. King George does not have that problem at the end of this year. He deserves the Hall of Fame, but that clock needs to start ticking at the end of this year. Cashman is not blameless, either. he constructed a team without a bench, the lousy first base combination, a bullpen that starts more fires than an arsonist, and Roger Clemens, for pete's sake, to put even more strain on said bullpen. The jury is still out on Clemens, but he is what he is at age 44. Money circling the drain, to be paid by the price of our admission. Dumb move in retrospect, hell, dumb move before it was made. Joe Torre has been a part of this team for the last 12 years. We thank him for everything that he has done and wish him well. He deserves that respect.
