Paying for Grades Insults Poor

its sorry to know most of your young readers will not understand what you have written but we older citizens do understand. When we brought home report cards with low grades, no weekend or evening activities, an extra hour of study at the dinning room table. All until our report cards improved. Cash? Yes, we received cash. For mowing the lawn, washing my dads car, baby sitting my sisters. Education? Never. My dad said that was a gift from society. A chance to improve yourself. He always told me I would be fated to work on a production line all my life if I did not get a degree. To prove it he got me a job lifting Kelvinator Refigerators off the line durring my summer vacations. Lugging mail at the post office at Xmas time also educated me that hard labor wasn't something I wanted to do all my life. How about giving these kids summer jobs at $25.00 an hour only if they end the school year with a passing grade? They could be cleaning up the city streets, cutting lawns, painting homes for the poor, etc. Thanks for your article. We have the same past experience as many of your readers.
