In Polls, Clinton Loses to Republicans
in response to reader comment: Woman for President

None implied. Margaret Thatcher and Indria Ghandi show that gender is less relevant than ability when it comes to running a powerful country. My own state has two female senators (one competent if misguided) and a female governorl who used to be a very good attorney general (not my first choice for governor but we've had worse men in the role). But none of them ran on any "woman factor" which is my point.

This "vote for me because I am a woman" seems to have the Hillary crowd giddy with anticipation. What the recent French election taught us is that people will claim they will vote the "female factor" almost right up until they pull the lever,. and then common sense takes over. Royale won in the polls, and just lost in the election-- but of course the polls stop mattering on election day. There is a huge difference between a woman running for office and a candidate running for office as a woman. I have never seen the second one work but I may be wrong.

The other thing, in my opinion (that's all it is) is that this isn't just a woman but this particular one. Most people outside the relatively narrow and declining Northeast axis (I'm from there) never accepted the idea that there could be a credible sequel to MacBeth. "Noo Yorky" just don't play well these days in all those places where folks are birthing and raising lots more voters like Utah,. Texas, and those other rust-free states. FDR she isn't, and it's been a looooong time since 1932..
