Ivan Basso did not received a reduced sentence for his admission of attempted doping earlier this year. He received the full two-year ban - the same as if he had admitted to actual doping, as in the eyes of the sport, attempted doping and doping carry the same suspension time. He is probably going to be eligible to return to pro cycling in October 2008 because they take into account the months he was suspended between the Tour 2006 and when he signed with Discovery, which is normal practice.
