Bush's Clemency

What is hardest for me to digest is that your good sense is not merely denied, it is unrecognized by the major media. I happened to catch ABC with their own (no equal time necessary) expert, George Stephanapolus, opining from the trenches of East Hampton (there's a man of the people for you) that the president was merely sucking up to the tiny, slighly rabid supporters who still like him, scrambling to curry favor wherever he can. The anchor agreed completely, and then went to Chris Mathews for more impartial analysis. The facts of the case were never reviewed; the reasoned opposition to this postion was never consulted, and they made no attempt to examine the possible reasons--within the case itself--why the president would have made such a decision.

It may be wrong, but it is certainly reasonable to recognize the possibility that (1) the case itself was dubious, (2) the decision was questionable, and (3) the sentence was excessive. Of course I believe all of these things are true; what is unhealthy is that none of these possiblities were considered.
