Neither of those elitists could ever understand why my bright, intelligent son who attended the public school's gifted and talented program (one has to have an IQ of at least 129 to get in and evaluators told me that my son has an IQ of 138--I believe that is higher than Kerry's) because those yahoos are too full of hatred and disdain for the military. My son, like his older brother, who is a Vice President of a nationwide mortgage loan business, could have had a career in any field he wanted but he chose the military for the simple reason that he loves it and he loves this country and wanted to do something for his country; he loves and respects the men that serve under him and they might not love him back, they do respect him, and that is more than I can say for Rangel or Kerry.
My sons will go far in this life, but not because they married rich women or used their race to achieve. They both worked their way through college because their father and I could not afford to foot the whole bill; they didn't have parents, powerful backers or wives with bags of money. They both studied hard, and worked hard. My oldest son bought his first car, a new Volkswagon for which he paid cash, when he was 19 years old with no help from his parents or anyone else. He got his first job at 11 years old cutting lawns, and when he was old enough, he flipped burgers and did anything else he could to earn money and he saved it. They both worked two jobs and took full course loads, even attending summer sessions and intercession classes. They have worked for and earned everything they have. No one gave them special treatment, except for the love and respect of their parents, and they never asked for any. Their father and my husband, Carlos Reyes from Puerto Rico, worked like a slave so I would not have to and could stay home with our children. In school and college, when it came time to "check the box" for "race" they never checked Hispanic because they wanted to earn everything themselves, and they have exceeded any expectations I ever had for them. They have made their father and me so proud because of the kind of children they were and because of the kind of men they have become. The world should only have more people like my sons and less of priviledged elitists who think they are smarter, better, and more entitled than those whom they seek to govern.
