Laurence Mancuso, 72, Leader of Dog-Training Monks

Submitted by Norman R. Mancuso, Jul 4, 2007 12:11

I believe that the article on my brother, Father Laurence Gabriel Mancuso, misses the point of his entire life. In spite of being authoritarian, Father's first concern was living a spiritual life and providing spiritual guidance to those who were in need of it. However, he would have been successful in any endeavor, including running a business today. Indeed, he ran several businesses while founding New Skete, providing spiritual direction to monks and nuns, as well as married or single laity. He was an liturgist, artist, musician, composer, choral director, dog breeder, linguist ,author and other accomplishments too numerous to mention. Of all of his accomplishments, he was most proud of being a priest of the Eternal God. He always found the time to come to the aid of a soul in distress. While he was my brother in the flesh, he was my father in the spirit and I thank God that he was able to live with me for the last seven years of his life. Memory Eternal, Gabe. We will always love you and be thankful to God for all of the spiritual direction you provided to us.
