I value your opinion since you are obviously aware of Islam from an insider point of view. But I don't understand your considering the West being involved with solutions for the Islamic mind as: " condescending" Why?
It's obvious that the Islamic problem is not going to get solved via this violence and only will filter out to the rest of the world as it already has. The notion that the West is not involved is misleading. The West can become the scapegoat as it has already, for the rage and sufferings of the millions and millions of Islam's member who live amongst the West. Getting out of Iraq may actually be very nice for a minute, but what happens after the radical Jihadists take over Iraq? what happens to the Moslem mind then? when many more young moslem men will consider their fates sealed toward joining this Islamic army bent on destruction of the West?
Unfortunately, the dormant Islam of the 7th century has awakened to technological advances of the West and therefore, with the Islamic mind of the 7th century there is NO WAY the West is condescending when it wants to get that Islamic mind on track with the 21st Century.
