This is not surprising since pro-Americanism is forced upon Europeans nowadays from about kindergarten years, or even before. The situation is similar to what Eastern Europe was like under Soviet rule. The propaganda turned the occupiers into heroic "liberators".

In most countries one can hardly buy a newspaper which is not full of (often badly used) English words (reminder of the russian language being mandatory in school in Eastern Europe under Soviet occupation), and naturally one finds few authentic fast food places as well, since often they are forced out of business by EU regulation. Obviously EU-regulation will benefit McDonald's, since the EU political elite are basically a colonial elite who serve the US occupiers.

There are many other examples as well. American style "shopping centers" almost often categorically refuse to advertise anything that has to do with the host country, even the songs played around Christmas are "Rudolph the REd-nose reindeer" never Stille Nacht, or sg. else. Authentic and intelligent TV and radio often faces hardship due to government policies which prefer to propagate mass ignorance.

Most importantly, many of the EU political elite push American models in areas in which even in America they are already known not to work for example in education (Bologna) and health care. The education system now often skips history of host countries, or it is watered down to the American point of view (the Manichean Europeans=nazi villains, US=benevolent liberator point of view).
