I'm onen of that 99.9999% of Americans who are gravely concerned about our health care systerm. It is pretty much broken, I think most people agree. However, I am definitely NOT for any kind of government-run, socialized health-care systerm. Generally speaking, the federal government is not an efficient system, no matter What the area of their involvement. Neither are they generally a very cost-effective way of doing things. On top of that, we have both Canada and England as glaring examples of what to expect if we go completely government healthcare. Consequently, if I don't anticipate it to be either efficient OR cost-effective... AND I see all these horrible problems inherent in the government-run systems of our allies, why would I want that for America. On the other hand, our current system is not only too expensive for the average american, I feel it is terribly corrupt, both operatively and conceptually. I don't know exactly how I would "fix" it if I were dictator, but I honestly feel the biggest part of the problem is that our legislators are "owned" by the drug companies and insurance companies. I Do feel that there's a reasonable way to fix the whole system and leave it predominantly in the private sector. The first thing I would do is make each member of our 535-person congress and each member of the supreme court and every federal judge of any description pay one-fourth of his/her monthly salary for health insurance, regardless of how much he made. I would also make it illegal for them to accept any $$ of any kind from them (as well as other lobbyists) and/or attend any meetings of any kind sponsored by such companies or their lobbyists anywhere other than D.C., and I would cap how many such events they could attend sponsored by any one company/industry. I would make this policy apply equally to all those with the most power. :)
