Rising Insurance Rates Put City Doctors Out of Business

Submitted by Richard Kops MD, Jul 7, 2007 10:50

The New York Sun article was right on the mark. The public and our elected officials just dont get it. There is a real crisis yet our medical societies continure their old policies of polite conversations with the politicians. This has been going on for years with no progress. The HMOs are not going to increase payments to physicians 14%. Every year physician's expenses rise while insurance payments never increase. They dont even keep up with inflation. Every physician I know had seen a dramatic reduction in income after expenses. My plumber makes more than I do in 10 minutes cleaning out a clogged sink than I do in more than an hour. It is time for physicians to organize and be heard with one strong voice. If nothing is done real soon, we will be reading about the death of private medical practice in the obituary section of the NY Sun.
