Questioning Whether Islam Is Religion of Peace

Submitted by David Kleykamp, Jul 9, 2007 01:58

Mr. Ibrahim's editorial is clear, succinct, and honest. It also has the virtue of being true. Thanks to the NY Sun for having the courage to publish this brave man's views.

He is not attacking Islam, he is attacking blind, fanatical servitude to fundamentalist teachings whatever the source. This is true for all religions and secular ideologies. The West went through this painfully during the 18th century and emerged much better for it, though religious faith needed to adapt and is still adapting today. Communism fell on its face because of its intrangience to its foolish ideology. Islam has yet to successfully recognize this similar need for modernization and change. It fights a daily jihad against such change. The challenge is to find a means of making Islam tolerant. So tolerant that the many hundreds of Voltaires and Humes that secretly live in the Middle East today will be willing and able to come out of the closet.
