Mr. Steyn is correct. Here in Vermont and elsewhere in the US, particularly in states that border Canada, we import the cream of the crop so to speak of Canadian physicians. They are trained in western medicine often in the world's most prestigious medical schools and hospitals and they leave their native land because of the "system". It is not only MD's from Canada however; in my 25 year nursing career I have worked along side MD's from Iran, Pakistan, Ireland, India, Hungary, China, Japan, The Check Republic, Africa, and Italy to name a few... right here in Vermont (which is less than 2% non-white, by the way).
In that same 25 year nursing history, I have never met a physician who was leaving the US to practice in the UK, or any other country except for brief periods as a part of physicians without borders or other relief group.
We not only risk what is typically associated with socialized Medicine if we adopt it (long waits, etc); we risk not attracting gifted physicians to this country and losing our own.
