Columbia Expansion Plan Debate Will Intensify

Submitted by Michael Cristofaro, Jul 10, 2007 16:32

What is it that our local leaders don't understand. Taking property from one person only to give it to someone else is - WRONG. What Columbia is doing is neighborhood cleansing plain and simple. These individuals have been taking care of their properties and in some cases are close to owning their own home for the first time. Columbia should look elsewhere for their expansion. They have the money to do it. Have we not learn from the Kelo VS New London case that eminent domain for economic development is wrong. Over 38 states have enacted laws to protect property owners just like in West Harlem. What are you waiting for NY? Leave these people alone and let them enjoy their property. Our For Fathers fought for this right and they are turning in there graves for what you are doing.

Neighborhood cleansing is wrong plain and simple. Here in New London they cleared out 90 acres and to this day nothing has been built and our taxes are still going up. I applaud this neighborhood for standing up for their rights and for fighting for all of us across this nation. Keep up the fight
