Messers. Meyers and Seigel are living in the last century. Brown v. BOE was a necessary landmark decision made in the middle of the last century when times, attitudes and needs were different. It made de jure segregation illegal and attempted to address de facto segregatiopn through busing. The latter proved much harder to deal with. I taught in NYC for 35 years and learned two simple truths. Parents, black, brown, yellow or white, want their children in good schools that are close to It seems to me that the best way to achieve those two ends is to make ALL schools great and to address the lack of affordable housing in the city. It's a cruel and paternalistic to make schools intergrted and not neighborhoods. the promise of equal education in NYC has been met. It's time to address equal housing.
