Committee Rules No Britannia for West Village Street

The simple naming of a neighborhood may not be a big deal, but opposition to "Little Britain" is just more evidence of the subtle liberal movement in this city (and indded the country) to rub out our Anglo traditions. Look at the renaming of the Ralph Waldo Emerson school in Brooklyn to the "School of Diverse Languages and Cultures"- nevermind that Emerson spoke several languages, was bisexual, a radical abolitionist and publicly questioned the authority of the Protestant faith. He was British by ancestry, and that alone is as contemptable to liberals as being wealthy or a Republican. The real British story liberals want to tell is the story of slavery- nevermind that after thousands of years of it and, yes, Anglo participation in the trade, it was Anglos who successfully mounted the first major abolitionist movement the world had ever known. The liberals want to tell the story of Jim Crow and segregation- nevermind that, yes, after Anglos perpetuated it, it was largely Anglos (Republican Anglos at that- gasp!) who ushered in the Civil Rights Act and Affirmative Action. Also nevermind that the crown-jewel of Anglo achievement- New York City- is the most diverse city in the world. They want to tell the story of "illegal occupations" and "interventions upon sovereign states"- nevermind that Anglos and the non-Anglos who settled in the Anglo-inspired USofA have given freedom to almost as many millions as the totalitarians and communists have put it mass graves. And what about the entire foundation of our society itself- representative democracy and capitalism. The Anglo-American legal tradition is the most free system of representation and justice the world has ever known. We know this because in the last 25 years, almost 80 countries have copied it! Our capitalist system provides more benefit for more strata of socio-economic classification than any other country in the world, (e.g. our poor people go to Six Flags Great Adventure where they eat $4 popsicles- we've all seen it!) Forget the anecdotes, this is all evidenced by the tens of millions of those who've taken great cost and risk to be here rather than, well, anywhere else. So if "Little Britain" doesn't stick, big deal. It's just a name. The real shame is knowing where the knee-jerk anti-Anglo sentiment comes from. These are the same New Yorker's who wear Red-Sox hats not because they like the Red-Sox, but because they hate the Yankees. They hate anything and anyone that time after time bests its competition. From the dawn of history, can any society claim to have won more contests of humanity and justice than the Anglos and the English-speaking people?
