City's Elegant Chinese Dining in Crisis

Submitted by steven m.b., Jul 11, 2007 10:31

The notion that Chinese restaurants are closing en masse is misguided. Ever been to Queens or Brooklyn, where more modern-style and authentic Chinese places are opening? Old school gloppy Cantonese restaurants as well as the Sichuan joint mentioned here are simply not authentic. Increased immigration from mainland China (outside of Guandong province) means New York gets more updated and tasty Chinese. Were the author to visit Main Street in Flushing, for example, he likely would have written a different article.
