OK, Mr. GOLDman ....... your mid-season grades are for the most part fair and accurate. Let's though start with where the biggest problems with this have been and go from there.
1.) Middle relief - Farnsworth, Proctor, Vizcaino need to improve radically and "QUICK". If we're going to run the second half at thirty games over .500 these guys are going to need to be perfect. Your grade (D+) is in my opinion slightly generous. They are a solid (D .."no plus").
2. Abreu needs to also have a smoking second half. We have nothing coming from the left side of the plate that gives "any" pitcher the jitters. And a a salary of $15.6 (totally obscene) he's an embarrassment to the team, George's baseball people, and seemingly not to himself.
3. Cano needs to forget the clowning and chest bumping and thumping after the occasional Yankee win and save his energy for extra "BP". He has not produced. And I give him a solid D - . And since when is playing less than .500 baseball reason to get giddy. Paul O' Neill should pay him a visit seeing as Jeter won't.
4.Mussina - tired arm, lot's of innings over the last 10 years and he's what 38/39 going on 45?
5. Mr. Torre - it's time Joe. You have taken being a "players coach" thing to a point where these extremely well paid men are not busting the way a Jimmy Leyritz, Paul O'Neill, Brosius, Tino, Wells, Coney, did back during the run. Stand-up Joe and let this team have it! If they react like the over paid many of them are too bad. This team has been underachieving for a couple of years. We love you Joe but a D + is not what a 240 million dollar payroll needs. AND we need that D + to move to an A + from you and your staff the second half.
In closing, we need a left hand bat like Mark Texeira added to this club. Young, switch hitting, damn good fielder, intelligent, power and average.
OH...... one more thing...... where's the allimportant TEAM grade? I give this ball club for the first half a solid C- .
