Just as Old Masters is a general term so is Modern Masters. I didn't notice Lucien Freud on the roster, for example. The roster of Old Masters given in this article is a pretty weak list (save for the Cranach) but come to think of it, so are the Moderns. This would be a brilliant exhibition if it were approached as more than just Summer filler. If Z & W borrowed some first rate Old Masters and paired them with first rate Moderns, not just old hags from their own stable, an exhibition like this would have great potential and vindicate both Old Masters and New. That is something which the public is in dire need of. Knowledge.
