Tuskegee Airmen

I was greatly honored to meet one of these wonderful men this weekend, Fred Wilson, caucasian name, known to most as Blue Eagle, his Native name. Being one of only four Native men to serve in this exclusive group, he is even less recognized than his Brother Airmen. One of these four gave his life for his country over Europe. Finally, a small group of deserving men are recognized, but a smaller subgroup is still ignored. I realize that not all of the disparate groups that served our country can be recognized, but these brave men are just lumped in with admittedly more brave men but still not recognized or acknowledged. I salute the Senator from CA that finally convinced her fellows to pay for transportation for this ceremony. At the age most of these men are, it would have been a severe burden for them to pay for something that they so richly deserve. I do, however, question why they had to pay for their medals. Others are presented with medals at no charge but not these. Why? Thank you all for your unrecognized brave service to this country and for helping to break the color barrier. May God bless all of you.
