As an American who has lived in the UK for the last 20 years I find Professor Frogspawn's behaviour not at all surprising. Good manners once the supposed hallmark of the English are now seen as being servile or lacking 'attitude'. Amongst the young (I work in a High School) there is a significant population who believe that education, manners, respect for authority and a vocabulary which doesn't employ the F-word at least twice a sentence are somehow all "Middle Class" values. The streets are covered in rubbish especially outside fast food shops. Thanks to Britain's bloated welfare state under Labour these cretins aren't short of a bob or two either. You get the bizarre scenario of kids with the latest cell phones who claim they can't afford a £2 calculator for school. Weekend entertainment centers around drinking enough booze to kill a horse, shagging anything that breathes and if you can't find that, getting into a fight. Sorry, I lost my awe of English "refinement" a long time ago. It's we Americans who should not be ashamed of our culture.
