Council Clash Could Aid Quinn's Mayoral Odds

Having seen a clip of Ms. Plummer "in action", I totally agree with the decision of Ms. Quinn. To use words such as "assassinate", or "treacherous", as Ms. Plummer wantonly did, does not sound very "grandmotherly " to me. To think that Ms. Plummer attacked a co-council member for not agreeing with her stance on re-naming a street is outrageous. Just because Ms. Plummer is black, Mr. Sonny Carson is black, and the "offending" council member is black, does not mean that it was the black council members civic duty to vote for the re-naming. I wonder what other issues Ms. Plummer has such passion for? I feel her disruptive, racially heated behavior cost her her job, and not Ms. Quinn. Politicians, council members, and community activists should, and usually do, show enormous amounts of restraint and tact when dealing with issues close to their hearts, but this is outrageous. It is sad that Ms. Plummer sees things only in terms of "color", and consequently viewed the independant council memeber as a "traitor" to the black community. Then you have Mr. Charles Barron saying that a "white woman" is trying to "fire this black grandmother with 10 grandkids". This man is on another planet. How misguided of him to make these claims when he himself ( a black man) holds an important position on the council, Ms. Plummer (a black woman) also holds (held) an important position. How can anyone cry racism when they are not being "kept out" of the council. The U.S. has many people of color in very high places, and many people of color with vast fortunes and social prominence. This racially heated talk is not the words of an informed political leader, but that of a misguided, inflammatory, childish instigator. Mr. Charles Barron should be the next one to go! There are plenty of intelligent, decent people within the black community that would be willing to take on the issues of their constituents without resorting to such tactics as Mr. Barron. I was physically sickened watching him put his arm on Ms. Plummer's shoulder and spew the words "white woman", (dripping with disdain), as if Ms. Quinn's color or the color of anyone's skin in this mattered at all. It was a shocking moment. Bravo to Ms. Quinn for recognizing and dealing with a person whose ideas and inclinations have no redeeming qualities, nor the brilliance needed to lead in the position Ms. Plummer was given.
