That Iran and Al Qaeda are working together should not be exactly shocking to anyone. Bin Laden has long indicated his desire to have Sunni- Shia divide buried in the struggle against the west. That Iran would be cooperating with Al Qaeda makes complete sense, based on the recent reports of events within Iraq regarding attacks on coalition personnel by Iranian agents, or other terrorists working for Iran.
According to Mr. Rohan Gunaratna in his book Inside Al Qaeda Global Network of Terror (Berkley, 2002,2003) p.16:
"Ideologically Al Qaeda differs markedly from the groups of the past. It has taken the first steps to breaking the Shia-Sunni divide that has traditionally kept apart two terrorist groupings...Al Qaeda has persistently argued that Islamist groups should shed their doctrinal differences and unite to take on the real enemy, the West, and strike the US--- "the head of the snake." (emphasis added).
I find it incredible that certain people in the Media, at State and within the Intel community can't get this through their collective, partisan minded brains.
