Books survive or disappear through the ages on their own merits. All this hype about needing to have the ending secret in order to enjoy the book is ridiculous. Most of us knew how Moby Dick ended before we read it, and some of us read it more than once without the need to abstain from reading the ending so as not to spoil the effect the next time.
Get over it people. If you really need to be kept in the dark about the outcome of a story in order to enjoy a book, you probably should be watching television instead. The value is not in "how it ends" or even "what happens" the value is in how the tale unfolds and how the characters come alive in the telling.
I love the books and my daughter loves the books. If we had known three years ago how the story would end, we would still be planning to line up at midnight for our copies. In fact, those standing in line worked up into a frenzy over the ending itself are a little scary as far as I'm concerned. I'd almost prefer that the news were leaked and those that can be so easily dissappointed stay at home for the night and lessen the overcrowding of the bookstores.
