Scrap the entire immigration system. It is beyond repair. It ain's gonna be fixed in 2007 or in 2008. It is just going to continue to be used as a political football. Right now it is a dialogue between the conservative crazies like Tancredo and the do-gooders.

We have lost the focus. U.S. laws are meant to govern and protect U.S. citizens and this sovereign nation. The foreign-born get more sympathy and attention than the internal migration, the poor who continue to travel thousands of miles in search of work rather collect unemployment or a hand-out: the Appalachia white and migrant farm workers from the Southwest.

This is a transnational problem. It requires a bi-national solution. Remove it from the lobbyist-run Congress. Give those already here the opportunity to return to their country voluntarily. Then enforce the law; confiscate the property of those who choose to test our resolve and remain here without the cover of law. Deport them and use the monies from the sale of their properties to defray the cost of depotation. Those who choose to leave voluntarily may apply for legal entry.

In the application process, their contributions may be recognized by giving them priority consideration. Let new immigrants wait and habitual illegal crossers be penalized, banned from eligibility from employment.

Punish severely employers who recruit and advertise for workers in Mexico. We know of instances where employers loan or even pay for the coyotes fees to sneak them across the border.

Design a new system entirely. Admit their is racism. Why build a wall on the mexican border and claim national security concerns when the 9/11 terrorists came in through Canada. Slightly under 50% of the illegal presence is from Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa. Design a system that makes sense. Mexico exports labor because they cannot provide for their own. U.S. agriculture, industry and manufacturing need labor. There ought to be an orderly system of migration that is the product of a mutuality of interests.

The subject has unleashed a vicious animal prejudice and discrimination against all Hispanics native-born and foreign born alike. I don't want my children to bear the stigma of seconf-class citizenship. We brought them up to be all they can be according their God-given talents and never to take a back seat to bigots and racists.
