Bicycle Plan Is Put On Fast Track

Submitted by hal eskenazi, Jul 23, 2007 17:48

Well, the article is good news, but we need to take it a step further. I'm willing to bet that a great number of cyclists, myself included, work for a living. Some are being encouraged to use their bikes to commute. That's great. But how about when they are off from work and want to vacation, tour or exercise? Doesn't it make sense to encourage the use of bike's as much as possible? Yet, when I attempt to return on public transportation, New Jersey Transit [as well as Metro North, Amtrak, etc.] they enforce a rule that doesn't allow me to bring my bike on the train. You see, no bikes on the train on holidays, i.e. Labor Day, July 4th etc. Well, it's no surprise that being the day I have off, or the weekend I'd like to go away, I'd need to bring the bike on the train or use a car. It particularly irks me in that I am a taxpayer, subsidizing the very transportation system that publicizes one thing and is completely opposite in its execution, refusing me [and other like me] entrance. Your thoughts?
